Polarised lenses can be tested by using a known polarising lens (from another, known, pair of Polaroids), Put one lens in front of the other and look through both lenses at the same time, Rotate one lens relative to the other around an axis perpendicular to both lenses, and you should see your view through the chanel espadrilles e which have a softer overall colouring, these are more black and of course have the Polaroid effect but work just as well thanks.
